How we keep it private
  • Your PDF is read by code running on this page. This tool never sends it to our server or anyone else.
  • The only files the tool downloads are the PDF reader (PDF.js, by Mozilla), and only after you choose a file. Before using them, it checks they are the exact versions we tested.
  • The tool doesn’t save anything in your browser (no cookies or browser storage), and its code has no analytics or tracking.
  • Clear all data removes your statement, the table and your typed details from this page. Closing the tab does the same.

How to convert a PDF bank statement to OFX

  1. Drop your PDF statement in the box, or click Choose a PDF. If the file is locked, type its password. The password stays on your computer.
  2. Check the table. A green bar means the opening balance plus every transaction equals the closing balance. If the bar is red, fix the highlighted rows.
  3. Pick the account type, type the last 4 digits of the account number, and choose the currency.
  4. Click Download .ofx file. Then import it into your app with the steps below.

How to import the OFX file

QuickBooks Online

  1. Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Click Link account, then Upload from file.
  3. Select your .ofx file and click Continue.
  4. Pick the QuickBooks account, click Continue, and choose the transactions to import. Then click Yes and Done.

QuickBooks Online takes files up to 350 KB and 1,000 lines. QuickBooks Desktop needs a .qbo file, so it can’t open this OFX file.

Quicken

On a Mac, go to File, then Import, then Bank or Brokerage File (OFX, QFX), and pick your file. Quicken says it doesn’t support files made by converter tools, so we can’t promise it will accept this one. Quicken for Windows imports .qfx files, so it won’t open an OFX file.

Xero

  1. Open the bank account, click Manage Account, then Import a Statement.
  2. Select your .ofx file and follow the steps to finish.

Xero can also read PDF statements from some banks in the US and Canada. If your bank is on its list, you may not need to convert.

GnuCash

  1. Go to File, then Import, then Import OFX/QFX transactions.
  2. Pick your .ofx file and click Import.
  3. Choose the GnuCash account and click OK. GnuCash remembers it next time.
  4. Check the rows in the import matcher. Rows GnuCash already has are left out, so they aren’t added twice.

OFX vs QFX vs QBO

All three are bank transaction files. Each one lists the date, amount, payee and an ID for every transaction.

File What it is Works with Made by this tool
OFX Open Financial Exchange, the common format QuickBooks Online, Xero, GnuCash, Quicken for Mac and more Yes
QFX Quicken’s version of OFX, with a bank ID added Quicken No
QBO QuickBooks’ version of OFX QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online No

Common problems and fixes

  • The app won’t accept the file. Check that your app takes OFX files. QuickBooks Desktop and Quicken for Windows don’t.
  • The file is too big for QuickBooks Online. Convert one month at a time. Keep each file under 350 KB and 1,000 transactions.
  • Duplicate transactions. Each transaction gets the same ID every time you convert the same statement, so apps that check IDs can skip repeats. Import each month once, and skip dates your bank feed already added.
  • Wrong dates. If a date like 03/04/2026 could mean two days, the tool asks if your bank puts the day or the month first. Pick the one your statement uses. You can change it later under Date format.
  • Money in and money out are flipped. Click Flip all signs. For card statements, pick Credit card as the account type.
  • The balances don’t match. Look at the highlighted rows. A row may be missing, added twice or have the wrong sign.
  • The statement is scanned. Download the PDF from your bank’s website instead. This tool can’t read pictures of text yet.

FAQ

Is this PDF to OFX converter free?

Yes. There’s no signup, no watermark and no limit on how many statements you convert. Each file can be up to 20 MB and 50 pages.

Is it safe to use with my bank statement?

Your statement is processed in your browser and is not uploaded. The converter’s own code has no analytics or tracking. This page uses Google Analytics to count visits. Clear all data removes your statement from the page.

Can it convert scanned PDF statements?

Not yet. It needs a PDF with real text, like the statements you download from online banking.

Does it work with credit card statements?

Yes. Choose Credit card as the account type. Purchases show as negative amounts and payments as positive.

Can I use the OFX file in QuickBooks Desktop or Quicken for Windows?

No. QuickBooks Desktop needs a .qbo file and Quicken for Windows needs a .qfx file. This tool makes OFX files only for now.

How do I get an OFX file from my bank?

Many banks let you download recent transactions from online banking as OFX, QFX or QBO. Older months are often only in PDF statements. That’s when this tool helps.

What is an OFX file?

An OFX file is a text file that holds bank transactions in a standard format. Money apps can import it, so you don’t have to type each transaction.
